Welcome back everyone! It has been a wonderful week back and we are now into Term 3. How time flies!!
We have started our new units in reading and writing: "Authors and Mentors" and "Character Study". To launch these new units we have chosen an author that inspires us and that we enjoy reading. We chose Michael Rosen and we have started to read his poems and stories which teach us many things and are also very funny and witty.
We have also started to learn about adjectives and making use of these to describe our characters during character study time. The children will also hopefully, start incorporating these into their writing to make it more descriptive and entertaining. We read a storybook “Hairy, Scary, Ordinary” by Brian P. Cleary. It was really exciting to find so many adjectives in that book. We then went on to choose some to describe ourselves.
This week we have also started our new unit of study "Life Links". In this unit we will have a chance to explore the connection between humans and animals. Where do animals live? What do they need to survive? How are we responsible for the survival of animals?
We started our inquiry by discussing what we already know about habitats.
We had our first Mystery Reader this week - Althea (Cole's mum) read to our class and the children really enjoyed listening to her!
Our class also had their first lesson in cooking on Friday. Tami and Chelsea taught the children to make Sandwich Sushi which went down very soon, vegetables and all!
