WEEK 31

“Service Starts With Me”

We have now divided into four groups to work on our Service ideas for the residents at Happy Lodge community. One group is creating Dream Catchers so the elderly have happy dreams and thoughts when they sleep! A second group has chosen to design coffee cups. Another group is using everything we have explored in our Reading and Writing Workshop units to create non-fiction books for the elderly at Happy Lodge. The fourth and final group is in the early stages of choreographing a dance. It is fantastic that all of these initiatives have come directly from the children and they are so enthusiastic and independent about seeing them through. Ms Jae and I are just supporting them when they need help.

It was great to see our friends at Happy Lodge this week. Each group decided beforehand on activities to share with the residents in their rooms. Some groups chose to play board games, some brought games from home, others created Laurel Burch inspired artwork and many shared Maths games.Than you to the parents who have accompanied us on the trips so far. Our children benefit so much from your support and enthusiasm.

In Mathematics, we are enjoying exploring “Pattern and Function.” The children will have opportunities to identify, describe and extend number and shape patterns that repeat and grow. At the moment, we are thinking about the difference between repeating and growing patterns and effective ways to describe patterns. Here are some photos to show what we have been doing so far.

Art with Mr Betts
In Mr. Betts studio, we worked with patterns and colours to produce incredible designs. We have started to take pictures of our designs on "kaleidoscope" function on iPads to create spectacular digital patterns! We will share these with you in the next blog.

Career Dress up day
This was a fun day where children had opportunities to dress up in what they want to be when they grow up. See if you can work out who is who.

Reminders:
G1 Teachers are on PD (on campus) on Tuesday - there will be a sub teacher and the day will be a normal teaching day.

Please note that Thursday, 24th March is the last day of school before the holidays. School reopens on Monday, 11th April.
