Week 3

A big thank you to all for taking the time to meet me this week for our Settling-in Conferences. It was great to discuss your child and get to know them better through these meetings with you.

It’s been an incredibly exciting week filled with lots of opportunities to play team games, share our Mystery Bags and interview our friends, using the Doodlecast app on iPads, to learn more about each other. Please ask your child some interesting facts about their friends and I’m sure you’ll enjoy this!

In Mathematics, we have been investigating properties of different kinds of shapes using Power Polygons, Unifix cubes and Pattern blocks. Through shapes and cubes, children investigate concepts of measurement, counting, patterns, geometry, perimeter and area, fractions and logic. Next week, we will start to look at Number Sense through counting and comparing, ordering numbers, and comparing quantities.

In Writing Workshop, we have been learning to do simple sketching in order to plan our thoughts and sequence events in the order in which they happen. We have also been writing about our ‘small moments’ which is a more sophisticated elaboration of writing.

We had a lovely assembly this week, led by Mr. Wilcox. Teo made a presentation on his trip to the Turtle Museum over the summer break. This is the new home of our school turtles, who relocated this summer, and Teo validated that they are well cared for and happy!

That’s all for this week. Have a great weekend!
