Welcome to our first Class Blog and welcome to a great new year in Grade 1! We’ve had a brilliant start to the year and the children have been absolutely fantastic. Ms. Jae and I are looking forward to having exciting learning adventures in the year ahead!
In 1PTh, our children have been busy getting to know one other and gradually becoming more self-aware in relation to each other in the group. They have been engaged in Collaborative Play, Circle Time, Morning Meetings, discussions and lots of play to help them feel a sense of community and over time, appreciate each others strengths and qualities.
Our Mystery Paper Bags have been a big hit and students have shared excitedly and proudly a little bit about themselves and what is important to them. Thank you so much for sending the paper bags! Here are just some photos of them during a sharing session. Next week, we will post more photos of the children sharing their Mystery Bags in class, so stay tuned to this blog!
We have met our Grade 3 buddies twice in the last two weeks and the children are delighted to be with them. We have worked with the Grade 3 buddies on an art project and, this morning, our class interviewed their buddies to get to know them better.
In Literacy, we have been looking at what makes a book Just Right for reading. Next week, your child will be bringing home a “Just Right Book” home. There will be a little note in the Reading Log that we hope will help you when reading with your child. Please continue to support them in their journey towards becoming confident and keen readers!
We were treated to gorgeous, yummy cupcakes today. Elin and Rebecca celebrated their birthday in class...we wish them a wonderful birthday weekend!!

Our current Unit of Study is “Communities” and interacting with our G3 Buddies is a lovely way for us to be aware of and value our school community. This week, we started looking at the word “Communities” and brain-storming all that we know about it. Over the next few weeks, we will explore the difference between peoples needs and wants. We will also discover the different communities we belong to, the different responsibilities people have, and what roles do we play in our communities. It would be great for you to have some of these conversations at home with your child.

We are super excited to have two parents take on the role of class parents. A big thank you to Tamara Ahlberg and Susanne Lingohr-Wolf, for volunteering to be our 1PTh class-parents (Tamara is Kjerstin's mum and Susanne is Thalia's mum).
