It has been a short but very sweet week. On Wednesday, we enjoyed our first visit to Happy Lodge Home for the Elderly in Tampines. The whole grade performed four songs for the residents, including Chan Mali Chan, which has long been a Happy Lodge favourite. After our performance, the children moved out into the crowd, introducing themselves to the residents and sharing cards, poems and gifts they had made at school. This was quite challenging for some of us but our children did us proud and the residents seemed to really enjoy our visit. We are already looking forward to returning in a couple of weeks to get to know our Happy Lodge friends a little better.
A massive THANK YOU to everyone for joining in with Friday’s Workshare with such enthusiasm and interest. As I mentioned on the day, we wanted the focus to be about how our Units of Study combine content based learning with more conceptual, hands-on and open-ended research. From what we observed, many of you went home a little more knowledgeable about the names of our bones and their locations and, hopefully, the sessions sparked some collective thinking and discussions about the importance of joints and function in the Skeletal System.
Next week, we will begin to shift our focus to another important body system, the Circulatory System. We are very excited about our upcoming visit Khoo Teck Puat Hospital the week after next. Please return the permission slip if you have not already done so.
Alex and Daniel celebrated their birthdays by treating us all with home made cup cakes, decorated entirely by them!
Just a reminder that I will be on professional development in Italy next week. Mrs. Susanne Schaefer susanneschaefer@yahoo.com will be our teacher-in-charge and, of course, Ms Jae jaeismauwc@uwcsea.edu.sg will be with the class all week, so please contact them directly if you have any queries or requests, particularly if there are changes to end of day pick up arrangements. As I won't return until Sunday next week there will be no blog that week.
