We started this week with an Assembly on Monday morning. Thalia, Arjun and Dora were presenting the show and they did a great job! The big take away was that in order to achieve your dreams, you must have a passion and show resilience. You must never give up, especially when the going gets tough! Our guest motivational speaker was Mr. Ian Deeth (he is a sports teacher at our school) who came first in a Reebok Spartan Race Challenge. His mantra is “Don’t practice until you get it right, practice until you can’t get it wrong.”
Preparations for the Arts Festival are in full swing! The children have been busy preparing props for the background and practicing their moves. We’ve had a million ideas from the children and they’ve all been super involved in the process. Ms Jae and I have resisted telling the children what to do because in the end, we want them to take ownership of their performance. It’s coming together nicely and we know you’ll enjoy their creativity and imagination when you see their show.
Staying on the same subject, can you please send in a white t-shirt or top and blue bottom to wear on the day of the Arts Festival? We will be painting pictures on the t-shirt so please avoid sending in anything expensive or valuable. Please send the t-shirt in on Monday so that we can start painting on Tuesday/Wednesday.
In Mathematics, we have started discussing 2D shapes and their properties and attributes. The children made 2D shapes using clay and wrote the number of vertices and sides in those shapes. Handling clay was the most challenging part as it dried up so quickly!!
We really enjoyed our Art session on Thursday with Mr. Hamish Betts. He taught us how to make big bold 2d shapes on paper using a pencil and then colouring in using pastels. He then occupied the shapes using eyes, nose, ears, chin, and hair. The children loved the art session and were so creative!
All in all, it has been a very energetic week – hopefully the children get some rest this weekend!
Reminder:
- Arts Festival performance from 9.00 am to 10.00am. Please come up to see our sculptures in the G1 Pod after the performance and feel free to take photos of the ‘stars’ of the show. School will continue as normal after the Arts Festival Performance.
- Please send in a White t-shirt or top and blue bottoms. These can be denim or any other material. Shorts, leggings, pants, jeans, skirts all work well.
